Remove mold from shower caulk with two simple tools (three if you count the gloves to protect your hands). The process works, it’s easy and it is inexpensive compared to other less-effective methods.

Shower Mold
Noticing mold in your house is a homeowners nightmare. Believe me, I know. We purchased our house BRAND NEW and within 10 months of living there, one of our showers began to show mold spots along the caulk. I began a deep dive into figuring out how to remove this hard-to-reach mold and followed up with a prevention method for the future.

Why Is There Mold In My Shower Caulking?
This is a question I’m sure you’re asking. From my research, low quality caulk as well as moisture behind the caulk will cause mold to form in your shower. Also, think about your climate. When we lived in the Michigan, mold was NEVER an issue for us. Now that we live in SC where the humidity smacks you in the face every morning through summer, we’ve seen it appear in our shower which gets cleaned weekly.
Figure out the triggers for mold in your shower and then address them. Some of you may need to just completely remove the caulking (use a mask) and then clean your area and reapply new caulk. When using new caulk, be sure to purchase one that prevents mold such as Mold Armor Mold Free Caulk & Sealant. Others may be able to use our method which consists of cleaning the area per the instructions below and then treating your space with a mold preventor such as Mold Armor Mold Blocker.

How To Remove Mold From Shower Caulk
Now lets get to it! Your mold spots with be gone before the day is over.
What you’ll need:
- BLEACH
- Cleaning Gloves
- Cotton Balls
- 4 Hours of Soak Time
Directions:
- Prepare your space to be treated. Open windows, turn on your bathroom vent fan and wipe down the area to remove any moisture.
- Pour bleach into a shallow bowl. Stretch your cotton balls to form an oval. When desired amount of cotton balls have been stretched, put on your gloves.
- Dip your stretched cotton balls into bleach and apply firmly to mold areas. Continue doing so until all mold spots have been covered with bleach-dipped cotton balls.
- Allow to sit for 4 hours. Remove cotton balls and rinse down shower. Repeat as needed for spots you may have missed.
Okay, so no one wants to repeat this but if your mold is bad, you probably will need to. I had to repeat in a couple of spots simply because I didn’t fully cover the area with cotton balls my first time. This method truly works though and is a PLEASANT surprise to see in action.
That wraps up how to remove mold from your shower caulk!
