IDEA PINS ON PINTEREST AND WHY YOU SHOULD BE USING THEM

July 20, 2021 · blogging

Whether you are seasoned or just starting out in the influencer/blogging world one fact remains – early adoption of new features on social media platforms is a major factor in being successful. Today, I’m going to tell you why you should start creating idea pins on Pinterest right NOW.

WHAT ARE IDEA PINS?

Idea pins are pins without a destination link. Idea pins can be multiple images that pinners swipe to see, single images or videos. Pinterest has started pushing these idea pins to pinners on their home feed. At this moment, idea pins do not show up in search results but that will be happening soon.

Below are three examples of idea pins I created and shared on Pinterest. In the upper left hand corner of the photos you’ll notice a number which tells you how many images you can swipe through with these pins.

WHY SHOULD YOU CREATE IDEA PINS?

TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC.

Idea pins are being pushed hard by Pinterest in an effort to give influencers and creators a way to reach their audience without having an actual website. So many creators share their ideas via social media platforms such as Instagram or TikTok rather than building an actual website on their own. Idea pins help Pinterest users find people to follow and ideas to inspire them.

SO, from this big push you have SO MUCH OPPORTUNITY to reach SO MANY MORE PEOPLE. Even though your main goal may be to drive traffic to your blog, idea pins can still be your friend. For one, they increase your reach and build your followers on Pinterest. More people save your ideas and begin following you which means future pins you share will only be MORE VISIBILE to all of Pinterest.

My Pinterest account impressions grew by over 400% in less than one day from THIS viral idea pin.

HOW TO BUILD AN IDEA PIN STRATEGY

Now that you know how this can help you and why you should dive right in its time to come up with a strategy. This is going to be greatly influenced by your niche and your style. Not into videos? That’s fine. Start by sharing idea pins with multiple photos. Love making videos? PERFECT. Share the same videos on Pinterest that you share on Instagram Reels and Youtube Shorts. There’s no reason your creative work should only live in one place.

  1. Browse your home feed and scout idea pins that could work for you
  2. Create idea pins with 4+ images for pinners to swipe through OR use video
  3. Find a way to hook viewers with idea pins which makes them visit your profile. Think of a call to action slide.
  4. Check your analytics to see what’s working and let that drive you forward.

BEFORE YOU GO

A lot of creators don’t love these new idea pins simply because they don’t provide a direct path to their website which is what pays their bills at the end of the day. I completely understand but I think it’s important to be flexible in any career path. Just look at major retailers and how they adjusted their business model when COVID hit – you have to keep up with the times to remain successful. Find ways to use idea pins to your advantage. The worst possible move you can make is to completely ignore them and hope they go away. Jump in now and set yourself up for success in the months to come.
