Why Should You Declutter Your Home
The thought of decluttering your home can be so overwhelming that you just ignore it completely. The reason for this is that you are looking at it as an activity that needs to be done all at once. Well, I’m here to help you through that – decluttering should be a project you work on step-by-step.
Need examples? Do not declutter your entire kitchen in one day. Instead, declutter the cabinets and drawers on day 1. On day 2, declutter the refrigerator. Day 3? Tackle under the kitchen sink. You get the picture now right?
Now that you know how to approach decluttering, lets figure out why you should declutter. Decluttering is a way to take control of your space. Yes, the physical results can be seen but they are also experienced mentally.

Lets use another example. It’s 7:15am and you’re rushing out the door. You forgot socks so you run upstairs to quickly grab a pair. When you open your drawer, you are met with THOUSANDS of mismatched socks, socks with holes, socks that are too small, too thick, too thin and some that should be in your kids drawers. Talk about unnecessary added stress. Now imagine that same situation but opening your drawer to find 4 pairs of perfect socks ready to fulfill your need. SO MUCH BETTER.
The above is a pretty silly, low stress example but it paints the picture. Declutter and organize your life to help reduce stress triggers throughout your day.
One last major reason to declutter is it truly makes cleaning easier. If your nightstand is overflowing with papers, books, unorganized jewelry and so on it probably doesn’t get dusted and sanitized as much as it should. Organize that nightstand and you are much more likely to grab a dust rag and wipe it off during your weekly cleaning.

3 Week Declutter Your Home Checklist
Now that you’ve determined why you should declutter, check out HOW TO declutter in a low stress, 21 day checklist.
I highly recommend printing this out and X-ing off the days as you complete them. Keep in mind you can jump around as needed. If the weekend is going to be beautiful, wait to clean your car and garage out until then. Also, if you’re on a roll and don’t want to stop try tackling two days at once.
Make sure you don’t tire yourself out by doing too much at once. This will likely lead to you not putting your full effort into the area you’re working on.
