Refresh your home with chalk paint! The investment is small and the results are AMAZING. I’m sharing my first ever experience using chalk paint and how I refreshed our entire bedroom set for $75.

Before Painting

Let’s start with the before, shall we? The bedroom set you see here (minus the crib) has been with us since 2012. Crazy right?!
Now that we moved into our new home we were completely ready for a new set and a new look. That ultimately means spending lots of money because furniture is NOT CHEAP.
Did I mention this was during COVID as well? That just means it takes about 6 months to have furniture delivered once you actually decide what you want.
All of this lead to me researching ways to refinish our current bedroom set to last us a couple more years.
I stumbled upon chalk paint, started with one nightstand and the rest is a blur. I became someone I didn’t even recognize – a painting maniac!
Lets Get Started!
The most difficult part of using chalk paint is deciding which color and brand you want to use.
I went with Behr Chalk Paint in White. You can find it HERE if you’re looking for similar results. Other materials I used in this process are below.

Where to Begin
- Setup an area to begin your process. This will more than likely take a full day or more depending on the number of coats needed and the time your paint takes to dry completely.
- Using your preferred cleaner (I used dawn dish soap), wash your furniture to remove any film, dirt or grime.
- Fill any major dents and scratches in your furniture with wood filler according to the package directions. Use putty knives to smooth.
- Once wood filler it set, use sandpaper to go over all of the furniture that you will be painting. Vacuum and wipe down to completely remove dust and dirt.
- Apply your first coat of chalk paint. Allow to dry according to package directions. Repeat coats as needed.
- Once your paint has fully dried, use a microfiber cloth to apply wax to furniture. Let set and then buff to achieve desired look.
